The responsibility of the branch postmaster is to handle the day to day postal operations of Branch Post Office (BO) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB). They are also responsible for the smooth and timely functioning of mail delivery. The Branch Postmaster is assisted by the Assistant Branch Postmaster.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
The Assistant Branch Postmaster assists the Branch Post Master. He is responsible for the sale of stamps or stationary, conveyance and delivery of mail at doorstep, exchange of male with account office, and deposition, payments and other transactions of India Post Payments Bank.

Dak Sevaks
Dak sevaks are usually appointed at department officers such as Sub Post Offices, Head Post Offices, etc. they are responsible for the sale of stamps or stationary, delivery of mail at doorstep, and transactions of India Post Payments Bank. They also carry out any responsibilities assigned to them by the Postmaster or sub postmaster. Dak Sevak also works in sorting offices of Railway Mail Services (RMS) and handles receipt & dispatch of mail bags, transhipment, etc. their job rule may also include assisting the Postmaster or sub Postmaster in managing Departmental Post Offices.

Educational Qualification
Any candidate who wishes to apply for the post of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), or Dak Sevak must have passed 10th grade with mathematics and English as compulsory subjects from a recognised Board of Central Government, State governments, or Union Territories of India.
The applying candidate must have knowledge of the local language up to a secondary standard so as to carry out day-to-day communication.
Age Criteria
Any candidate who wishes to apply for the post of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), or Dak Sevak must be of minimum 18 years and should not exceed a maximum age limit of 40 years.
