Payments are decided by the SSA where adjustments take place based on the Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) which upon being established uses the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Pursuant to the recently released COLA figures for the next year, 2025, SSA has stated that there will be a raise of 2.5% hence making the lifts $50 for all the recipients.
As for the retired people, the monthly payment benefits will rise from $1 927 to $1 976. These amounts for aged couple will increase from $3,014 to $3,089. For single female head of households with two children and who are widowed, there will be a raise from $3,669 to $3,761. How to Handle Missed Payments
While the SSA ensures payments are made regularly according to the schedule, delays or missed payments may occur. In such cases, recipients can follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Check Bank Statements: Verify if the payment has been deposited by reviewing your bank account. Ensure your account is active.
- Wait Three Business Days: If the payment is not reflected on the payment date, wait for three business days to allow for processing.
- Contact SSA: If the payment still doesn’t appear, report the issue to the SSA by calling 1-800-772-1213 (Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM). For those with hearing disabilities, call 1-800-325-0778. Provide necessary details such as your name, contact number, payment month, and time of contact.
After reporting, the SSA may reissue the check for the affected month. To facilitate this, provide details such as your name, address on the check, claim number, and payment month. Notify the SSA of any address changes to avoid future issues.
